HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A Habersham County Sheriff’s deputy has been fired and arrested after investigators determined he improperly accessed Flock Safety camera data for personal reasons, according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office announced Friday, July 31, that former deputy Christian Brewer allegedly accessed license plate data through the county’s Flock camera system in what officials described as “an isolated incident involving an individual with whom he had a personal relationship at the time.”
Brewer had been employed by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office since May 2024.
Flock Safety cameras are used by law enforcement agencies across Georgia and the United States to capture license plate information and assist in criminal investigations. While the technology is widely used to help solve crimes, there have been multiple cases nationwide involving officers accused of improperly accessing the system for personal reasons.
Habersham County Sheriff Robin Krockum condemned Brewer’s actions while emphasizing the continued value of the technology for legitimate law enforcement purposes.
“The people of Habersham County trust us with authority and access to sensitive information. This trust is earned every day and can be lost in a single decision. Any misuse of our authority or the tools provided to your deputies is betrayal of that trust. Although this was an isolated incident, I will not tolerate misconduct,” Krockum said.
He added, “Although the choice of this deputy casts a bad light on the use of this technology, Flock continues to be a valuable tool for law enforcement that has been proven to save lives.”
Brewer has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of misuse of license plate data and one felony count of violation of oath of office.
The arrest follows a previous disciplinary incident involving Brewer earlier this year. In January, he was cited by the Georgia State Patrol as the at-fault driver in a crash at the intersection of Pea Ridge Road and Duncan Bridge Road after allegedly running a red light while responding to a call. Authorities said his patrol vehicle struck another vehicle that was legally traveling through the intersection.
Following that crash, the sheriff’s office issued Brewer a two-day suspension without pay and required him to complete retraining on emergency response and due regard procedures.
