Dawson, GA- The coaching search begins in Dawson County as longtime Head coach Sid Maxwell announced his retirement yesterday. Maxwell, who has been the Head Coach of the Dawson Tigers for the previous 10 seasons, almost called it quits after last season, but decided to give it a whirl one more time in 2024. This season didn’t exactly go how Maxwell had hoped, but in an interview with AccessWDUN, Maxwell said it was the cherry on top of a 37 year career.

“I don’t measure anything on wins and losses with this football team, I got the most of them with what we had, talent-wise, and like I told them, they completed me.

“But I can’t say anything has been bitter for me, to be honest with you. I mean, I’ve been blessed. How many people can go out how they want to go out, and how many people in Georgia can be a football coach for 30 years? So I’ve been truly blessed, and I’ve been at three different schools and was fortunate enough to have success at all three schools. I’ve had a lot of people help me along the way, and I’ve watched people grow and build a lot of relationships. So, I’ve been blessed throughout my 37 years.”

Sid Maxwell retires as the winningest football coach in Dawson history, winning 69 games and losing just 45 in his tenure.

Maxwell led Dawson to their only Region Titles, 5 second round playoff appearances, and one quarterfinal appearance.
