BANKS COUNTY, Ga. — The Banks County Sheriff’s Office has received a $62,910.90 grant to support traffic enforcement efforts aimed at reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities on local roads.
The High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant was awarded through the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), with funding provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The program combines proactive law enforcement with public awareness campaigns to address dangerous driving behaviors that contribute to serious and fatal traffic crashes.
According to GOHS Director Allen Poole, traffic crash data helps law enforcement agencies identify when and where increased patrols may have the greatest impact.
“Using data to identify where and when traffic crashes are happening in local communities helps local law enforcement agencies determine when and where to patrol roads and highways in hopes of being able to save lives and reduce crashes through the enforcement of all traffic laws,” Poole said.
The sheriff’s office will participate in GOHS traffic safety initiatives, including the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over impaired-driving campaign and the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign.
The grant will also support enforcement mobilizations throughout the year, coordinated with GOHS initiatives, including high-visibility patrols and multi-jurisdictional sobriety checkpoints.
The funding period extends through September 2027.
