COMMERCE, Ga. — Fire officials are investigating a suspected arson after a structure fire caused minor damage to a residence on Spring Lake Road early Monday morning.
Units with Banks County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to 164 Spring Lake Road at approximately 2:57 a.m. Aug. 31 following a report of a structure fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found a single-family residence with fire damage concentrated on the rear of the structure. The fire had extinguished itself before emergency crews arrived.
Officials said the occupants were not home when the fire occurred. They later returned to the residence and discovered the damage. No injuries were reported.
The home sustained minor damage, primarily to the rear of the structure.
The cause and circumstances of the fire remain under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office. Officials said arson is suspected.
Emergency crews cleared the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing.
