Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Firearm Arrest in Paulding County

DALLAS, Ga. — A Paulding County man was arrested after deputies discovered a large quantity of illegal drugs, cash, and a firearm following a brief pursuit, authorities said.

According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Caleb Curry earlier this week, but Curry refused to pull over. After a short chase, deputies were able to stop the vehicle and take Curry into custody.

Inside the vehicle, deputies reportedly found a variety of illegal narcotics and other items, including:

  • 50 psilocybin (mushroom) chocolate bars
  • 27 grams of marijuana
  • 16 ecstasy pills
  • 22 Xanax tablets
  • 2 bags of THC gummies
  • 1 pack of THC resin
  • 1 Glock 22 handgun
  • $1,320 in cash

The Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force, which is managed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, responded to assist with the case and opened an investigation.

Curry was booked into the Paulding County Jail—referred to by deputies as the “Henson Hotel”—and faces multiple charges, including:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance with intent to distribute
  • Three counts of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a felony

Sheriff Ashley Henson said the arrest underscores the department’s commitment to keeping drugs off local streets. “There’s a new sheriff in town,” Henson said in the release. “Take it elsewhere.”

The Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force, based in Dallas, serves Haralson, Polk, and Paulding counties and includes members from multiple law enforcement agencies and the GBI.

Task Force Commander Daniel Nicholson encouraged citizens to report drug-related activity. Tips can be shared anonymously by calling (770) 646-9175 or through the free Paulding Sheriff mobile app.
