PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. At approximately 7:45 this morning, Pickens County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Hwy. 53 East near the Tate House. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a tractor-trailer tanker on its side in front of the Tate House spilling its contents and found the driver trapped inside the cab. After approximately 25 minutes, the seriously injured driver was extricated and was immediately transported to a trauma center. The spilled contents was hot tar that created a hazardous material incident where the run-off was contained and will require significant clean up. Units assisting with the scene were A & T Towing, Pickens County Public Works, Pickens County S.O, GSP, DOT, Cherokee County Haz Mat Team, Pickens County Fire Engine 20, Engine 51, Med 2, Med 5, Rescue 2, Rescue 5, Battalion-11, 1100, 1101. The roadway will probably be closed to around noon to complete the clean-up.
