BREAKING NEWS – Johnny Chastain has won the runoff election for Georgia State House District 7.
Chastain has won, taking 52.76% votes and Ralston earning 47.24%.
This runoff election was tight and even closer than their race earlier this month.
Chastain and Sheree Ralston faced off earlier this month on Jan. 3 as two of the five candidates on the ballot for the special election.
A special election was called earlier this year to determine who would fill the seat of the late House Speaker David Ralston who passed away in November.
Speaker Ralston had served in his role since 2010, before stepping back ate last year, shortly before his passing.
Ralston’s widow, Sheree Ralston, qualified to run along with four other candidates.
Ralston originally earned 45% of the votes on the Jan. 3 election while Chastain earned 39%.
Chastain currently serves as an executive with United Community Bank in Blue Ridge.
