Raccoon Tests Positive for Rabies in Cumming, Forsyth County Officials Warn Residents

Cumming, GA – Forsyth County Animal Services has confirmed that a raccoon found near Adams Road in Cumming has tested positive for rabies, marking the fourth confirmed case in the county this year. Officials are urging residents to take immediate precautions to protect themselves, their families, and their pets.

“Rabies is a serious viral disease that can be fatal if not treated promptly,” said a spokesperson for Forsyth County Animal Services. “We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report any animals displaying unusual behavior.”

Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of infected mammals, typically through bites or scratches, and can affect the central nervous system. Symptoms in animals can include unusual aggression, staggering, excessive drooling, or appearing unusually tame.
