RABUN COUNTY, Ga. – A 39-year-old Clayton man has been arrested following an investigation into allegations involving a victim known to him, according to the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.
Timothy Richardson was arrested Aug. 18 and booked into the Rabun County Detention Center. He faces charges of rape, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, criminal trespass and harassing phone calls.
According to Sheriff Mark Gerrells, deputies responded to a disturbance at a Rabun County residence on Monday, Aug. 17. During their initial investigation, deputies learned of allegations involving Richardson and a person known to him.
Based on information gathered at the scene, the case was referred to the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.
The subsequent investigation resulted in Richardson’s arrest on the five charges.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Due to the sensitive nature of the case and to protect the privacy of the alleged victim, authorities said they will not release additional details at this time.
Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The charges against Richardson are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
