PRESS RELEASE – Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has reopened the roadway earlier this afternoon, September 12, 2023, on SR 8/ US 29 over Beaverdam Creek with a newly constructed bridge.
The new bridge which runs over Beaverdam Creek replaces the former 100 year old bridge crossing which was originally installed in 1923 and widened in 1970.
The new bridge now has two 12-foot lanes with 8 foot shoulders on each side. With guardrails in place, the roadway was opened to vehicular traffic.
The project was awarded to Williams Contracting Company LLC in early May 2022 and the work began in early December that fall.
The 100-year-old bridge was closed to traffic during construction and a detour was put in place.
The new bridge is classified as a 2-lane rural minor arterial roadway with a posted speed limit of 55-mph which connects Roston and Hartwell in Hart Counties
