National Weather Service Confirms EF-0 Tornado Touched Down in Pickens County

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched down in Pickens County during severe storms that moved through the area on Tuesday, July 28.

Following a storm damage survey, National Weather Service officials determined the tornado produced estimated wind speeds of 80 to 85 mph. The tornado touched down in the East Price Creek Road area before tracking south, causing sporadic tree damage along its path.

Officials said survey crews are continuing to analyze the damage, and additional information regarding the tornado’s path length and width will be released once the mapping process is complete.

In addition to the tornado, straight-line thunderstorm winds caused widespread damage across other portions of the county. Numerous trees and power lines were damaged for several miles, particularly in the Talking Rock and White Stone communities. Scattered wind damage was also reported elsewhere throughout Pickens County.

Despite the severe weather, no injuries were reported as a result of the storms.

The National Weather Service continues to finalize its storm survey findings, and additional details are expected to be released as the assessment is completed.
