Multi-Agency Drug Operation Intercepts Meth Bound for North Georgia

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — A coordinated law enforcement operation involving multiple agencies across Georgia and North Carolina has disrupted a regional drug trafficking network, authorities announced.

The April 17 operation, led by task force officers from Union County and Fannin County, resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics believed to be destined for North Georgia and Western North Carolina.

According to officials, the investigation led to a traffic stop along Highway 515 in Pickens County. During the stop, officers identified the suspect as Daryl Gene Ankney, of Norcross.

Authorities reported seizing approximately one pound of methamphetamine, multiple Schedule III controlled substances, and nearly $2,000 in cash.

Officials described the operation as a “substantial disruption” to an active drug trafficking network operating across state lines.

The investigation involves a wide range of agencies, including the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and law enforcement partners in North Carolina, among others.

Sheriff officials emphasized that interagency cooperation was key to the operation’s success and remains critical in preventing illegal drugs from reaching local communities.

The case remains under active investigation, and authorities say additional developments may follow.
