Man charged after train struck vehicle on the tracks

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. – David Dale, 75, of Gainesville, Georgia, was charged with improper backing after his car was struck by a Norfolk Southern train on Jan. 6.

The collision occurred around 12:20 p.m., according to The Georgia State Patrol.

Dale’s vehicle was traveling south on S. Main Street and began to cross a set of railroad tracks when the railroad stop bars went down.

Dale attempted to back up but his vehicle was struck by the train.

He recieved minor injuries.

According to GSP, Dale said he was trying to get off the tracks, but never saw or heard the train.
