CALHOUN, Ga. – Human remains were discovered on Feb. 6 near downtown Calhoun, Georgia, just off Piedmont Street.
The remains were in a small wooded area by detectives who were searching around the surrounding area for a missing person.
After the discovery of the remains, The Calhoun Police Department investigated who the remains potentially belonged to, according to a press release.
“We have spoken with relatives of a person that has been missing for several months, and we believe we have located and are working with the medical examiner to positively identify the remains.” Chief Tony Pyle said.
Although the press release did not state the name of the person, they did mention that they believe the remains are that of a young man who went missing last summer, according to a mention on a social media post.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to work with the Calhoun Police Department to investigate the case.
