Former Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Employee and Volunteer Dies After Being Struck During Christmas Parade

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of former employee and active volunteer Robert Muth, who died from injuries sustained while assisting with traffic control during the City of Cumming’s Christmas parade over the weekend.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Muth was struck by a vehicle while volunteering at the event. Other volunteers and deputies on scene immediately began life-saving measures before Muth was transported to North Fulton Hospital. He died Monday morning while surrounded by family members.

Because Muth was affiliated with the Sheriff’s Office, the Cumming Police Department is handling the investigation into the crash.

Muth was a retired sergeant with the Boca Raton Police Department in Florida, where he served 21 years in law enforcement. After retiring, he continued his public service career with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

From January 2022 until April 2024, Muth worked as a Bluecoat security officer assigned to the Judicial Operations Division. Following that role, he volunteered with the Sheriff’s Office, assisting the Citizens Helping in Policing (CHIP) Unit, the Criminal Investigations Division, and providing support through interoffice communications.

In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office described Muth as a dedicated volunteer whose professionalism and willingness to serve exemplified the agency’s volunteer program.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to keep Muth’s family, friends, and its more than 150 volunteers and members of the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) in their thoughts and prayers.

Officials said Muth’s service and dedication to both the agency and the community will not be forgotten.
