Deputies Recognized With Life Saving Awards

On May 27, 2023 Deputy Cory Mitchell responded to a shooting scene where a male had been shot multiple times. Deputy Mitchell held pressure on the wounds which helped mitigate blood loss. Deputy Matthew Nelson and Deputy Shayla Benson were also on scene assisting Deputy Mitchell by getting first aid supplies, assessing injuries, and helping keep the scene secure. Deputy Nelson and Deputy Benson received a Letter of Commendation from Sheriff Gary Gulledge for their part in this incident.

On June 16, 2023 Deputy Kyle Newton was travelling to work via US 278 when he was nearly struck head on by a wrong way driver. Although Deputy Newton narrowly avoided near death, the vehicle traveling behind him was not so lucky. An elderly couple were struck head on and sustained severe injuries. Although he was shaken by the near collision, Deputy Newton sprang into action and jumped out of his patrol car to assist the elderly couple by removing them from their burning vehicle. The family of the couple are forever grateful to Deputy Newton for getting the couple out of the vehicle ultimately saving the male and allowing the female to live twelve more days after the accident.
