Dawson County Schools Report Record Low Covid Numbers

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – For the first time since the start of the school year, Dawson County Schools reported a 0% absence rate due to students or staff that tested positive for Covid.

This comes after Dawson County Superintended, Dr. Gibbs, talked about the low trending numbers during the Nov. 2 school board work session meeting.

“Our number are low, trending low and maintaining a fairly low number similar to our numbers back in the summer,” Gibbs said.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, Dawson County as a whole, only averaged 2.2 cases for a 7-day moving average last week.

Dawson County has been trending down in the number of confirmed positive cases since Sept. 8.

That date was also the second highest peak of confirmed covid cases in Dawson County with 54 confirmed cases, just trailing the highest peak that came on Dec. 24 of last year with 57 cases reported.

This time last year, the county averaged 3.5 cases for a 7-day moving average.

Last year, the numbers were also maintaining pretty steady low numbers before exponentially increasing through December and into January.

Dr. Gibbs has said that they are continuing with strict protocols and cleaning regimens that are in place throughout the Dawson County School System.
